Program Highlights:
The Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao Bridge (HZMB) is the longest sea-crossing road infrastructure in the world providing a direct land transport connection between two shores of the Pearl River Delta, linking Hong Kong in the east to Macao and Zhuhai in the west. The Hong Kong Link Road (HKLR) under Highways Department is a prominent structure that serves to connect the Main Bridge of HZMB from the HKSAR Boundary to the Scenic Hill on the Airport Island. It is worth to note that the Hong Kong section of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) has won the 2019 ICE People’s Choice Award.
The work comprises mainly design and construction of approximately 9.4km of precast segmental viaducts supporting dual 3-lane carriageways. These viaducts were built by balanced cantilever method, using either Lifting Frames, cranes or Launching Girders.
Ir CHAN Man will highlight the challenges and solutions employed in deck precasting and erection engineering of the viaducts. The main challenges on the project including the management of the marine logistic, the deck erection in open sea, the vicinity of the Airport and environmental constraints. The salient points on the design and build contract administration will also be discussed.
