[Hybrid] Claims arising from COVID

Development Bureau announced on 14 March 2022 its decision to flexibly handle requests from contractors for an extension of time due to the impact of the fifth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic, for up to a maximum period of six months. The burden of proof was still on how the contractors demonstrated the impact on the construction works arising from COVID-19 epidemic.

Jessica Chan is a senior consultant with Charlton Martin with a focus on contractual claims and dispute resolution. She is a qualified quantity surveyor, and a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (HKIS, RICS, CIArb) with over 10 years of post-qualification experience in the construction industry. Her work spans across a number of high-profile projects in various sectors. She is also experienced in quantum expert works for arbitration and litigation proceedings.

 

Leo Wong, admitted as a solicitor in 2013, is a Senior Associate of the Construction Department of Deacons. He specialises in dispute resolution with a particular emphasis on construction. He has wide experience in handling different types of claims from contractors and consultants arising from private and public construction projects. He advises on non-contentious construction related matters from time to time such as tender documents, works contracts, consultancy agreements, fitting-out contracts, performance bonds, etc.
