Dear Members,
Today, 1st October 2022, is the 73rd Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It is my honor to represent the HKICM in attending a series of celebration events organized by some of the major associations in Hong Kong. Let us dedicate ourselves working on the growth and development of our nation as well as understanding our responsibilities and performing our duties.
The preparation of the 25th Construction Management Award (CMA) and Anniversary Dinner is underway. All CMA finalists completed their presentations to the jury panel on 27th August and 3rd September 2022. My heartfelt thanks to all the jurors, especially the Head Juror Ms. Clarice YU, JP, Director of the Buildings Department, for their precious time and professional judgment in selecting the winners of the CMA. The new HKICM tie and pin are under production and will be distributed before the CMA and Anniversary dinner.
To celebrate the HKICM 25th Anniversary, HKICM Sports and Recreation Committee successfully organized the first HKICM Morning Drive Event in July. Early in the morning, 16 vehicles with 24 participants gathered at Hung Hom carrying the HKICM 25th Anniversary logo and drove together to the SkyCity Marriott at Lantau Island.
The 13th day of the 6th month on the lunar calendar is Lo Pan Patron’s Day. This traditional festival is an important day to the construction industry. To commemorate Master Lo Pan’s contribution to his successive generations, and recognize outstanding young practitioners in the industry, the “2022 Young Lo Pan Award Ceremony” was held on 11th July at Lo Pan Temple at Kennedy Town. As one of the co-organizers, we aim to comprehend more outstanding young practitioners at different working levels and in different craft fields of the industry. Through commending full-time students, we hope to stimulate their creativity, interests and understanding of the industry to encourage them to join the construction industry in the future.
During the recent courtesy visit to the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC), we were delighted to meet the Director of the HKIC Sr Winnie Shiu. She gave an impressive presentation on the overview of HKIC and its efforts in training and upskilling practitioners for the construction industry. We extended our intention on closer collaboration and working relationship with HKIC in return.
Several site visits were organized in the last quarter including a visit to the Tung Chung Extension Reclamation site arranged by the CEDD, the MIC Mock-up for HKU Wong Chuk Hang Student Residence project and theProposed Redevelopment of The Mariners’ Club at Tsim Sha Tsui co-organized by HKICM YMC and HKIA. These site visits demonstrated excellent illustrations of latest innovation, technology applications and construction methods.
As the number confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection is reducing, I look forward to seeing you all at the 25th CMA and Anniversary Dinner with further relaxation of the social distancing measures.
Best Wishes,
