Brief Content: Ir Dr Leo K K LEUNG will share his expertise in Earthquake Engineering, covering both the fundamentals and the theories that drive it, and will apply his critical insight to explain why a newly built tower in Bangkok, located nearly 1000km away from a recent earthquake’s epicenter, collapsed. Common sense suggests that while a 7.7 to 7.9 magnitude earthquake is significant, the seismic energy and waves traveling over 1000km would lead to much lower ground movement and energy at the location of the collapsed building. Yet, this newly constructed tower suffered a total catastrophic collapse. Let’s explore together and uncover the true causes behind this unexpected disaster.
