Practical AI Skills & Smart Decision-Making for Construction Managers

6 October 2026

Organised by HKICM in collaboration with the School of Professional Development in Construction (SPDC), the professional education arm of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC), the CPD Talk “Practical AI Skills & Smart Decision-Making for Construction Managers” was successfully held on 5 October 2026.

During the session, Mr. Johnny K.C. Ma, Founder of OpenDeedigital Limited, shared his extensive expertise on what every construction manager should understand about today’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) — open versus closed models, why capability keeps rising while cost falls by approximately 75% a year, and where AI actually fits into day-to-day work — as well as the practical skills needed to use it effectively now and turn it into faster, sharper, yet still accountable management decisions. He also provided practical insights, real-world examples, and actionable tips to help participants apply AI effectively in construction management.

The session was followed by an engaging and interactive Q&A discussion, giving participants the opportunity to exchange ideas and explore the practical challenges and opportunities associated with AI adoption.

Dr. Ron Ng, Principal (Acting) of the HKIC/SPDC, concluded the session by introducing technology training programmes to the participants.

Special thanks are extended to Dr. Ron Ng, Principal (Acting) of the CIC/SPDC, and Cr Betty Lo, Chairperson of the HKICM CPD Committee, for their great efforts in organising this successful event.

As a token of appreciation, a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Mr. Johnny K.C. Ma in recognition of his excellent presentation and valuable sharing.
