The HKICM Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Committee was pleased to serve as a Supporting Committee for the PolyU CEE-RCDfS Seminar on “Managing Psychosocial Hazards and Advancing Mental Wellbeing in the Construction Industry: A Multi-Dimensional Approach”, held on 11 June 2026 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Carol Hon, Associate Professor at the School of Architecture and Built Environment, Queensland University of Technology, Australia. Dr. Hon provided a comprehensive and well-structured overview of psychosocial hazards and workforce mental health across the global construction sector, highlighting relevant benchmarks and emerging practices for modern construction management.
A key focus of the session was the shift from reactive approaches towards practical, site-based strategies that promote mentally healthy workplaces. The presentation reinforced that integrating psychological wellbeing into core safety culture is increasingly essential. For construction managers, addressing these less visible risks is closely linked to enhancing project resilience, reducing safety incidents, and improving workforce retention.
