President’s Message

1 July 2021

Dear Members,

It’s been another busy quarter while we progress through the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking the pandemic challenge as our opportunity, we have improved communication with our members through more social media channels such as Facebook and made good use of the online channels to deliver seminars and CPD programs. Successful examples included HKICM/ HKIA/ HKIE (BUD)/ HKIS (QSD) joint CPD webinar “Digital Construction and the Way Forward” on 19th April 2021; and “Infrastructure Investment in Hong Kong SAR” cum “Site Measures against Pandemic and Modern Construction Technologies Applied in a Design & Build Project” joint CPD webinar with HKU/ HKICM/ HKIA/ HKIE(BUD)/ HKIS(QSD) on 22nd May 2021. Both events were well received with over 1,000 registrations, which has demonstrated the quality of our professional development and enthusiastic support and participation of fellow members from contributing organizations.

Connection has been made with the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) Hong Kong Chapter to maintain closer collaboration. It’s expected to renew the MoU arrangement with CABE when it’s Chief Executive visits HK this fall. Links with the Singapore Institute of Building Limited (SIBL) has been reinforced by renewing our Memorandum of Understanding. We believe such framework could benefit execution of in-depth alliances in addition to the cordial collaborations so far.

We have not forgotten our social responsibility especially the livelihood of the grassroots that have been adversely affected by the epidemic. Apart from donating medical masks and sanitary supplies to NGOs, we have also sponsored CISVP of Construction Industry Council to offer the “Master Lo Pan Rice” to disadvantaged groups on 14th May. We have, together with Hong Kong Construction Industry Employees General Union (HKCIEGU) and Vocational Training Council (VTC), co-organized the [Young Lo Pan Award by Lo Pan Kwong Yuet Tong HK] in June to groom young talents.

In order to enhance and maintain member services and professionalism, we have committed to revamp the Institute’s website and install a CRM mechanism. It’s expected that major renovations and key features will be ready by this year end.

Furthermore, various events and activities have been organized to kick start the celebration of the Institute’s Silver Jubilee next year. The 25th Anniversary logo and slogan contest has been successfully concluded with 1 grand prize champion and 4 winners of merits. The winning logo will be fine-tuned to be incorporated in the jubilee collaterals. Revamped corporate video will be filmed and scheduled to be released during the 25th Anniversary Cocktail Reception in October 2021. Running in parallel, HKICM has been appointed Alternate Chair of the Quality Building Award (QBA) 2022. Please stay tune to our announcement on website for the updates on our progress thereafter.

Final but not least, I have been appointed as a member of the Building, Civil Engineering and Built Environment Training Board – Vocational Training Council, for the period from 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2023, and will continue to advocate professional excellence on behalf of the Institute.

I look forward to working with you and seeing you at the coming HKICM events.

Cr ZA Wai-gin, Tony
President
1st July 2021
