Recruit – 由學徒到營造師 一個奮鬥的故事

筆者近期見證現職公司於5年內誕生第四個傑出學徒。學徒訓練制度在建造業已有逾40年歷史,訓練出一代代的業界領袖。在這行之有效的訓練制度下,從業員均能輕易找到合適的在職培訓,裝備自己,迎接下一階段的挑戰。

以筆者自己為例,在未滿18歲時已進入建造業,不經不覺將近30年。我自小學開始便不喜歡讀書,終日在足球場流連,對學校生活完全提不起勁。直至會考派成績那天,我才洞悉那是我在學校讀書的最後一天,其後好友帶我到前身為建造業訓練局的香港建造學院報讀學徒課程。就這樣,無知而懶惰的我,便踏出投身建造業的第一步。

在訓練局完成一年入門課程後,我便加入了一間大型建築公司當學徒。當年的建築地盤環境相當惡劣,對外界而言,在地盤工作的人不是窮人,就是下等人。當時筆者也不敢向朋友提及自己在地盤工作,亦開始疑惑是否要繼續走下去。

由討厭讀書到成為註冊營造師

直至遇到一位駕著私家車到地盤巡視的項目總監,每位同事都追著他匯報工作進度,當時心想:我若能夠像他那樣,就不會被人瞧不起吧!於是,我開始發奮,邊工作邊讀書,逐步向這個目標進發。

我大概用了10年時間,由當學徒、管工、協調員,最後晉升成為項目經理—即建築項目的負責人。由討厭讀書,至完成學士、碩士學位,回望這段心路歷程,令人回味。

直到2015年成為一間建築公司的董事和註冊營造師後,我發現自己對建築業界能有更多貢獻,因此在考獲工程師資格的同時,我也不斷參與各個業界組織的職務,目的是想推廣建造業,也想令社會認同營造管理的專業—任何在大學就讀建築管理等相關科目,累積合適經驗和通過學會專業考核後,便可成為註冊營造師,統領整個建築項目,由平面走到立體。

這30年來,建造業有長足進步,科技令項目管理變得專業,而業界的齊心努力,亦讓工地工作環境得以大大改善。未來10年,建造業將迎來前所未有的工程量,業界正需要大量生力軍的加入,而在職的更是前途無可限量,筆者亦期望能吸引更多年輕人投身其中。

Mr Joseph Chung

Joseph Chung is a Solicitor Advocate. He is also a registered foreign lawyer of the
Singapore International Commercial Court. He was previously a Barrister until he became a Solicitor in 2001. He is also a fellow member of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors.

Joseph has extensive experience in all aspects of construction in both private and public sector work, advising developers, contractors, consultants and banks.

Over the years in his practice as a lawyer, he has been involved in many high profile construction projects, including the Hong Kong airport core project, the Express Rail Link and the Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhui Bridge. He was involved in the Commission of Inquiry into Excess Lead found in Drinking Water in 2015/2016. He is recommended in the area of construction in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2014 – 2021 editions) and acknowledged as one of the leading lawyers in the area of construction in Chambers Asia Pacific (2014 – 2021 editions) and the exclusive winner of the “Construction” category in Hong Kong by the Client Choice Awards 2018 & 2021.
