3 November 2022

Modular building is increasingly being adopted in Hong Kong for its ability to improve build quality, reduce construction programmes, and optimise material use i.e. require fewer temporary works. In this session, the speaker shall introduce heavy lifting, share ideas about abnormal load engineering and expalins ways to handle heavy loading and large-scale modular builds in the construction industry. Examples will demonstrates how heavy lifting can facilitate alternative solutions for tricky sites. The most commonly used Heavy Lifting Equipment, i.e. Strand Jacks, SPMTs etc. shall be introduced in this sharing session.

Large-scale modularised construction was originally developed in the energy sector, and the talk will discuss the history of heavy lifting plant and equipment, its development and future applications. It will also introduce the heavy lifting opportunities and possible application in Hong Kong, especially working around the tight-spaced city centre.
