Dear Students,

Invitation of Application for HKICM Summer Internship Programme 2015

The Summer Internship Programme 2015 (“the Programme”) organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (“HKICM”) is now open for application (please refers to the enclosed Introductory Flyer for details of the Programme). Applications from university and VTC students in architectural, building and construction, engineering, surveying, environmental or safety & health courses are invited to join the captioned Programme.

The Programme

The aim of the Programme is to give students who wish to pursue a career in the construction industry an early opportunity to get some hands-on experience of working in the field of construction management under both upstream (consultancy/office) and downstream (contractors/sites) working environment, so as to facilitate their future career planning.

The Programme will commence in June 2015 with a duration of not more than 8 weeks depending on the number of supporting organizations involved. Selected candidates will be arranged to work in a consultant firm and/or construction company. In addition, formal mentoring and performance feedback will be provided by HKICM to help the students to prepare for their future career planning.

Selection Criteria

(a)Student of Degree or Higher Diploma course in architectural, building and construction, engineering, surveying, environmental or safety & health discipline;
(b)Outstanding academic achievements;
(c)Active participation in community/school activities;
(d)Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
(e)Good interpersonal and communication skill;
(f)Good command of both Chinese and English; and
(g)Familiar with software such as MS Word, Excel & Chinese Word Processing.

Mr Joseph Chung

Joseph Chung is a Solicitor Advocate. He is also a registered foreign lawyer of the
Singapore International Commercial Court. He was previously a Barrister until he became a Solicitor in 2001. He is also a fellow member of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors.

Joseph has extensive experience in all aspects of construction in both private and public sector work, advising developers, contractors, consultants and banks.

Over the years in his practice as a lawyer, he has been involved in many high profile construction projects, including the Hong Kong airport core project, the Express Rail Link and the Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhui Bridge. He was involved in the Commission of Inquiry into Excess Lead found in Drinking Water in 2015/2016. He is recommended in the area of construction in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2014 – 2021 editions) and acknowledged as one of the leading lawyers in the area of construction in Chambers Asia Pacific (2014 – 2021 editions) and the exclusive winner of the “Construction” category in Hong Kong by the Client Choice Awards 2018 & 2021.
