Synopsis of the event:

Farrells is one of the BIM pioneers which has executed holistic digital transformation for nearly a decade with integration of BIM technology in several high complexity local projects, as lead architect in entire project cycle even while BIM was not a mandatory contract requirement yet.

Farrells commenced office-wide BIM adoption and training since 2013 on multiple local projects to improve the productivity and design quality.

In this seminar, Farrells’ directors Felix and Rachel will discuss HKSAR’s policies on BIM and share their experience from the journey of implementation and adoption of this new technology on various projects:

  • How did HKSAR’s BIM policies shape our industry on advanced technology?
  • Does the adoption of BIM enhance communication, programme certainty and budget control?
  • What are the challenges of full BIM adoption in building project amongst professions?
  • The future of BIM in Hong Kong?

Ms. Rachel Chow

Project Director, Farrells

Rachel is a Project Director with Farrells, and Deputy Authorized Person working on key projects for Farrells Hong Kong. She holds a diverse range of local project experience, having handled projects in both the public and private sectors, from the conception stage to construction.

Having extensive experience as Team Lead for large-scale and complex institutional, commercial and infrastructure projects in Hong Kong, Rachel is competent in leading a design team to offer holistic, practical building design solutions to fulfil client requirements within challenging programme.  Rachel is also passionate in the latest innovative building practices.  With over 15 years of practical and management experience in delivering large-scale projects by BIM applications, she is able to provide advice to implement efficient BIM workflow based on local practice.

Currently Rachel is an appointed Member of the 2021 – 2022 HKIA Council.  She was also the Chairlady of HKIA BIM & IT Committee from 2017-2020.  During the period, with a vision to build up capacity and capability of HKIA members for adopting BIM in building projects, she led the committee to establish HKIA BIM Pro & BIM Co Accreditation and organized related BIM Training.

Mr. Felix Li

Director, Farrells

Felix is a Director with Farrells and has more than 25 years of experience working in Hong Kong and overseas. Felix has a diverse range of experience in design and implementation of various international master planning studies, urban renewal projects, adaptive re-use of heritage buildings, residential / retail / commercial mixed-use developments, government facilities and infrastructure. 

By taking the lead in architectural design by holding planning/design reviews and handling project management and contract administration, Felix has carried countless government and private developments from inception to completion. He also provides direction on management resources, contract and post-contract matters. As a registered Authorised Person, he liaises with the Buildings Department, Planning Department, Fire Services Department, Architectural Services Department, and other technical departments on statutory matters.

Felix is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and was the President of the HKIA in 2019-20, during which Felix made great efforts via various approaches in developing and promoting the architecture profession locally and in the region as well as Mainland China. He led HKIA on liaison with HKSAR to become a recognised professional institute on BIM Pro training and accreditation.

Dr Daron Leung

Dr. Daron LEUNG, Vice President of The Hong Kong Federation of Occupational Safety & Health Association, Immediate Past President of The Hong Kong Occupational Safety & Health  Association, Principal Consultant of Occupational Safety & Health & Environmental Consulting Associate Ltd.

Mr Joseph Chung

Joseph Chung is a Solicitor Advocate. He is also a registered foreign lawyer of the
Singapore International Commercial Court. He was previously a Barrister until he became a Solicitor in 2001. He is also a fellow member of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors.

Joseph has extensive experience in all aspects of construction in both private and public sector work, advising developers, contractors, consultants and banks.

Over the years in his practice as a lawyer, he has been involved in many high profile construction projects, including the Hong Kong airport core project, the Express Rail Link and the Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhui Bridge. He was involved in the Commission of Inquiry into Excess Lead found in Drinking Water in 2015/2016. He is recommended in the area of construction in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2014 – 2021 editions) and acknowledged as one of the leading lawyers in the area of construction in Chambers Asia Pacific (2014 – 2021 editions) and the exclusive winner of the “Construction” category in Hong Kong by the Client Choice Awards 2018 & 2021. He is also recognised as a Leading Construction & Infrastructure Litigation Lawyer (2020 – 2021) and a Leading Front End Construction, Infrastructure & Projects Lawyer (2020) by Doyle’s Guide Hong Kong.

Joseph is the co-author of the Hong Kong version of one of the leading UK construction text “Emden’s Construction Law in Hong Kong”.
