ACCREDITATION

Introduction

The HKICM Accreditation is an official confirmation that a course or programme contains the required learning outcomes to meet our membership admission criteria and the standards set out in our education framework. Professional accreditation is undertaken to ensure that the standard and quality of courses or programmes is high and meets the needs of professional construction practitioners, their employers and Hong Kong society in general.

The HKICM accredits courses or programmes covering a wide range of construction-related disciplines, including the field of architecture, civil and structural engineering, building and quantity surveying, building engineering and studies, mechanical, electrical and building services engineering, construction and project management, plant and facilities management. The accredited courses or programmes include foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate or diploma in construction-related discipline which match HKICM’s educational requirements for admission into respective class of membership.

Accreditation by HKICM signifies that the teaching institute reaches the highest standards of governance, quality assurance and resource management while the accredited courses or programmes are assured to match the required academic and vocational standards.

Scope of Accreditation

The general scopes for the accreditation of construction-related courses or programmes are as follow:
1. Courses or programmes, instead of educational institutions, are accredited.
2. Only programmes leading to a postgraduate, undergraduate degree or diploma in construction-related discipline would be accredited. The programmes may be offered full-time, evening or part-time, open learning or by distance learning provided they cover the core skills and competencies required to sufficient depth and breadth.
3. Programmes to be accredited should be offered by an educational institution in Hong Kong funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC), or accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ).
4. Programmes are considered for accreditation and review either at the written request of the educational institution or by special invitation of the Institute.
