Vigorous development in Hong Kong and the neighboring Great Bay Area (GBA) has resulted in a massive amount of construction waste material (CWM). The excessive CWM not only poses challenges to land scarcity, but it also raises safety and environmental concerns. How to productively and efficiently use these waste will be huge challenges in the GBA. The guest speaker has teamed up with professors and experts in the GBA and proposed to set up a Waste Trade Organization (WTO) covering 11 cities in the region, in order to trade and share CWM towards achieving zero waste status in the long term. In this seminar, the guest speaker will discuss prospects and challenges for construction waste management in the GBA from the perspective of construction professionals. Furthermore, developing a WTO as a cumulated form of primary countermeasures will be discoursed to provide some inspiration for the construction industry in response to the looming construction waste crisis.
