Series 1 – Construction Contract Administration



Course Series 1-1: Construction Contract Administration - 1
The first part of this talk for Professional Training Series 1 – Construction Contract Administration organized by Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers and supported by The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors on 9 May 2019 was completed with full house of 50 participants.
 
A comprehensive presentation was delivered by the speaker, Cr Sr Paul Wong, the director of Paul Wong and Associates Ltd. and Grand Harvest Construction Co. Ltd. He shared with the participants the following areas:
 
1.   What are valuation and variation under the Contract ?
2.   How to deal with discrepancy found in the Contract documents ?
3.   Architect’s written instructions and oral instructions requiring a Variation
4.   Architect’s authority to issue instructions requiring a Variation
5.   Contractor’s obligation to comply with and right to object a Variation
6.   Valuation rules
7.   How to deal with errors in Bills of Quantities & Schedule of Quantities and Rates ?
8.   Direct loss and / expense due to an Architect’s instruction requiring a Variation
10. Payment for variations
11. Determination by Contractor due to Employer’s failure to pay
12. Settlement of disputes in relation to a Variation
 
Before the talk, Cr Boris Wong, Chairman of HKICM Training Committee, presented a souvenir as a token of appreciation to Cr Sr Paul Wong. Cr Boris Wong, Cr Sr Paul Wong, Cr Sunny Au, Cr Richie Yeung joined together to take a group photo.

Course Series 1-2: Construction Contract Administration - 2
The second part of this talk for Professional Training Series 1 – Construction Contract Administration organized by Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers and supported by The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors on 23 May 2019 was completed with around 39 participants.
 
A comprehensive presentation was delivered by the speaker, Cr Sr Paul Wong, the director of Paul Wong and Associates Ltd. and Grand Harvest Construction Co. Ltd. He shared with the participants regarding the areas of practice, application, essential and useful information on preparation of valuation of variations through 6 different case studies. The training ended with overwhelming and interactive Q&A session and well-response answers from the speaker.

Practice, Application and Case Study on Valuation of Variations

In the first part of this talk, the speaker will hold a short revision session on Valuation of Variations.

In the second part of this talk, the speaker will hold an open forum with the attendees for discussing some practical examples on Valuation of Variations. It is intended to let attendees to apply what they have learnt and share their views and experiences through case study.

Paul is a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers. He is the Honorary Treasurer of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, and the Past Chairman of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (Quantity Surveying Division). He has been working in the construction industry for consultants and contractors for over 30 years with extensive experience in construction contract administration.
